Day two of the 2015 West Virginia state tournament saw several impressive pitching performances and a game dominated by the offenses. Following is a brief recap of semifinal action from Friday.

Tristan ThompsonThe Tigers advance to the Class AA title game behind a strong pitching performance from Tristan Thompson and a well rounded team offensive performance.

Thompson went five plus innings allowing three runs on one hit. He departed with the bases loaded after registering six strikeouts without allowing a hit through the first five innings.

Bridgeport got big offensive performances from a number of players, none bigger than that of 2015 catcher Hunter Fain. The uncommitted senior went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a sacrifice fly and five RBI. 2016 outfielder Joseph Dodrill (right) was nearly as productive going 3-for-5 with a triple, a run scored and four RBI.

Bridgeport looks to defend its Class AA title from a year ago when they meet Chapmanville regional today.

Philip HoffmanWahama road the right arm of sophomore Philip Hoffman and a three run 7th inning outburst to victory. The White Falcons got a lead-off double from Kaileb Sheets and a single from Garrett Miller following a sacrifice bunt to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the final inning. Following a fly ball for the second out of the inning, Phillip Serevicz belted a two run home run to right to extend the lead to 6-3.

Hoffman displayed a power fastball topping at 88 mph in the first inning, and a hard-biting curveball early in going the distance with nine strikeouts. The right-hander struck out the side in the first and recorded five of his strikeouts in the first two innings.

Wahama advances to today's title game at 4:00pm opposite defending state champion Man High.

Braden GriffinThe final game of the semifinal round was highlighted by a dominant pitching performance from West Virginia State recruit Braden Griffin. The lefty struggled most of the night with command (seven walks), but yielded just three hits and retired 15 Yellow Jackets by strikeout.

Junior third baseman John Keffer carried the big stick for the Hillbilies finishing the night with two hits in three at bats with a walk and four RBI. Keffer's two-run home run to left in the third inning gave Griffin some breathing room. His two-run single with two outs in the 7th inning capped the Man scoring.

Man will be one of two teams (Bridgeport) looking to defend a 2015 state title when they face Wahama today at 4:00pm.
