Nitro 3, South Charleston 2

Nitro, No. 7 in the most recent Metro News AAA Power Rankings, paid a visit to South Charleston, No. 3, on Tuesday and left with a tight 3-2 win not decided until the final out. The Wildcats got a complete game effort from Andrew Stone (7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 8 K, 0 BB) and early offense to win on the road.

Nitro got off the bus hitting, plating two runs on four hits in the 1st inning. Following back-to-back singles from Jared Hill and Stone, Marshall signee Matt Harrison delivered an RBI single for the game's first run. Wright State signee Matt Jewell followed with a double to drive in the Wildcats' second run of the inning.

Stone faced the minimum through three innings but ran into some trouble in the bottom of the 4th as South Charleston used two hits and a Nitro error to cut the lead in half heading to the 5th.

Harrison played a big part in Nitro adding to its lead in the top of the 5th when he singled, stole second and third, and scored on an error to push the Wildcats lead to 3-1.

The Black Eagles sent seven batters to the plate in the bottom of the 7th cutting the lead to 3-2 on a Jacob Marler RBI single. But with the bases loaded and the tying and winning runs in scoring position, Stone put the final touches on his complete game effort with a strikeout to end the game.

Harrison was the lone Nitro hitter with multiple hits on the evening going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Marler led the South Charleston offense by going 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
