Hurricane and Ripley, the No. 3 and No. 4 teams in the PBR AAA Elite Eight rankings, met last night to determine the MSAC title following semi-final wins by both teams. The Vikings advanced to the title game on the strength of a 4-3 win over No. 1 ranked Nitro. The Redskins made short work of Cabell Midland, 12-5, in their semi-final win. The two teams had met in late March with Ripley coming out on top 6-5.
Ripley (20-6) got on the board in the top of the 1st inning when Christopher Jordan tripled with two outs and scored on an error. The lead was short-lived as Hurricane (20-4) plated three runs in the bottom of the frame and rode the right arm of Blake Stover (right) the rest of the way. The two teams exchanged single runs in the 5th inning with Hurricane celebrating a 4-2 final and the MSAC championship.
Jordan finished the night 2-for-3, picking up half of Ripley's four total hits. J.T. Rogoszewski and Justin Crouch both went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Redskins' offense.
Stover needed just 86 pitches in his complete game gem. The junior walked two, struck out two and did not allow an earned run on the evening.
