The Nitro Wildcats spent a good portion of the season at No. 1 in the PBR Elite Eight Class AAA team rankings and currently sit at No. 3. Much of the team's success can be attributed to their pitching staff and its 2.10 ERA.
Catching that staff more than capably has been junior Matt Jewell. The 6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitter has put up big offensive numbers, bested only by Marshall recruit Matt Harrison. Jewell is 2nd on the team in nearly every offensive category. He is hitting .346 with seven doubles, a triple, three home runs and 16 RBI.
In addition to his offensive expoitls, Jewell has shined defensively. He receives well and shows next level arm strength with pop times in the 2.05-2.10 range. Jewell has been nearly perfect behind the plate committing just one error in 189 total chances for a .995 fielding percentage.
