Trey Dawson, ranked No. 4 in the WV Class of 2015, was the lone West Virginia high school player to hear his name called in the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft. The Hurricane High School shortstop was taken by the Detroit Tigers in the 32nd round with the 970th overall pick. Dawson will be heading to LSU this fall to begin a college career knowing that he has the potential to be drafted again following his junior and/or senior seasons in Baton Rouge.
LSU has a track record of Division I baseball success. The Tigers current shortstop, Alex Bregman, was selected as the No. 2 overall pick in this draft by the Houston Astros.
Dawson completed a banner high school career for the Redskins this spring hitting .404. He also went 7-1 on the mound, but will play solely as an infielder at the next level.
Following is a look at the players with ties to West Virginia selected in this year's draft.
