West Virginia Fall College Prospect Analysis: Catchers

The West Virginia Fall College Prospect Showcase took place November 18th at Pro Performance RX in Morgantown, WV. Today we begin a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance beginning with a look at the catchers that participated.

CATCHERS
Caleb Taylor, Morgantown HS, Class of 2019
Taylor played this fall for the Appalachian Aces against college teams. He hit over .350 in 19 games. Offensively, Taylor initiates his swing out of a tall, neutral position laying his bat on his right shoulder. Creates serious bat speed and torque with his upper body. Registered a 98 mph exit velocity off the tee. One of best power bats still available out of West Virginia in the 2019 Class.
Defensively, Taylor blocks the ball well to go along with a 2.04-2.09 registered pop times. A 70 mph velocity out of the crouch was recorded.
Ethan Carter, Logan, Class of 2020
Defensively, Carter shows quick feet and a good arm, registering a 2.19 - 2.22 pop time and 66 mph out of the crouch. He uses his body well to block balls.
Offensively, he hits out of a slightly open, athletic position. Carter uses his hips well to create torque. Has a slight tendency to spin off of pitches outside,
but overall swings the bat nicely. A 70 mph exit velocity was recorded.
Ian Donohoe, Hurricane HS, Class of 2020
Defensively, Donohoe receives balls well and with confidence. Physically strong, and well put together. He registered at 2.53 pop time and 59 mph velocity out of the crouch.
Offensively, he starts in a neutral, closed stance He initiates his hands at a lower slot which allows him the opportunity to get his bat quickly through the zone. Donohoe displayed good pop and bat speed. A 79 mph exit velocity was recorded off the tee.
Brent Robinson, Notre Dame HS, Class of 2020
Defensively, Robinson shows considerable athleticism as evident by running a 7.22 - sixty and 2.03 - 2.09 pop time. Squares ball up well during the blocking portion of the drill. A 62 mph velocity out of the crouch was recorded.
Offensively, Robinson utilitzes his strong lower half to create good torque and leverage on pitches. Robinson uses a leg kick as a timing mechanism, which helps him stay on time. A exit velocity of 79 mph was recorded.
RJ Hulver, Bishop Walsh (MD), 2022 Class
Hulver is a 5-foot-8, 130-pound C from Bishop Walsh HS. Defensively, Hulver showed quick feet and sound fundamentals during the blocking portion of his evaluation. He did show a tendency to fade towards third base on his throws due to his lack of physical strength. He displayed a 2.56-2.64 pop time to go along with a 56 mph arm out of the crouch.
Offensively, Hulver initiates his swing in an open athletic stance. He was able to create some torque with a slight front foot lift and drove the ball well. His hands start high and he does a good job of getting his barrel through the zone. A 66 mph exit velocity was recorded. Hulver also recorded a 7.82-60.
