West Virginia Fall Review Event Analysis: Middle Infielders

The West Virginia Fall Review took place on November 17th at Pro Performance RX giving our staff a final look this fall at some of the top prospects in West Virginia. Today we continue a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at those players that participated as primary middle infielders (LISTED IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER).

James Bell, Nicholas County HS, SS, 2023
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a leg-lift stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a solid hip turn and hands that work well through contact. Had one of the louder rounds on the day during bp. Registered a bat exit velocity of 76 mph and ran a 7.53 60-yard dash. Displayed fundamentally sound defensive actions with developing 77 mph arm strength across the diamond. Athletic frame has plenty of room to add strength in the coming years. Definite follow in this class as he matures as a player.
Gage Bibey, Phillip Barbour HS, SS, 2021
6-foot, 170-pound two-way prospect had a breakout performance showcasing athleticism, above average strength in his frame and true two-way abilities. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to begin. Displayed balance throughout with a strong lower half with present power to the pull side and the ability to create backspin. Registered a bat exit velocity of 87 mph and ran a 6.87 60-yard dash, both personal bests. Advanced defender plays low to the ground and through the baseball with easy 86 mph arm strength across the diamond. The right hander also sat 80-81 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a quick arm swing and some sink to his fastball. Curveball at 70-71 showed biting 11/5 rotation with occasional two plane action. Changeup at 71-72 was thrown at near fastball arm speed along with a developing Slider at 70-71.
Ryan Fluharty, Morgantown HS, SS, 2023
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed balance throughout with a line drive swing path and a feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 82 mph and ran a 6.87 60-yard dash. Showcased active feet and a quick release defensively with 78 mph arm strength across the diamond. Solid all-around skill set with the foot speed to also make a move to third base in the future. Definite follow in the 2023 class as he continues to develop physically.
Tyler Gilpin, Spring Mills HS, SS, 2021
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a toe-tap stride. Showcased balance throughout with very quick hands and a middle of the field approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 81 mph and ran a 7.03 60-yard dash. Flashed above average athleticism defensively making the backhand play look routine. Plays through the baseball and showcased solid carry on throws of 77 mph across the diamond. This was the second look we've had of Gilpin and has made solid gains.
Hunter Lilly, Point Pleasant HS, SS, 2023
5-foot-7, 130-pound left-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a leg hang stride. A wrap in the load phase leads to some length in the swing. Showcased a solid feel for the barrel with a middle of the field approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 75 mph and ran a 8.05 60-yard dash. Showcased active feet and fluid defensive actions while consistently playing through the baseball with developing 75 mph arm strength across the diamond. Lilly has played himself into being a intriguing follow in the 2023 class.
Carson McCoy, St. Albans HS, SS/RHP, 2022
5-foot-8, 140-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a solid feel for the barrel and the ability to use all fields with a bat exit velocity of 77 mph. Ran a event best 6.57 60-yard dash and showcased a soft glove hand with an ability to play through the baseball defensively. Made throws from multiple arm slots with accurate 82 mph arm strength across the diamond. Sat 74-77 out of a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound. Changeup at 69-70 is thrown with good sell and curveball with 11/5 shape is spotted at 64-65
Benjamin Mcpeek, Parkersburg South HS, 2B, 2021
5-foot-9, 135-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel raise stride. Showcased a solid feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 74 mph. Consistently made solid contact during his round of bp. Ran a smooth 7.11 60-yard dash and displayed easy, relaxed actions defensively with a soft glove hand and accurate 72 mph arm strength across the diamond.
Caleb Nutter, Buffalo HS, 2B, 2023
5-foot-7, 145-pound right-handed hitter begins from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a line drive approach with average barrel awareness. Registered a 70 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.65 60-yard dash. Displayed developing defensive skills in the middle infield with accurate 70 mph arm strength across the diamond.
Kam Snyder, George Washington HS, SS, 2022
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a toe-tap stride to begin. Lower half glide leads to some length in his swing, but there is enough athleticism to find the barrel with regularity. Registered a bat exit velocity of 64 mph and ran an 7.52 60-yard dash. Displayed developing defensive skills with 72 mph arm strength across the diamond.
