2/13/25

One of Canada's premier catchers in the 2026 class, it was a good check in day for Thierman, who drew attention to himself after a strong 2024. A former Future Gamer, he's a bat-first catcher who continues to get stronger every time we see him. He took one of the better rounds of BP among a strong group at Dawgs Scout Day, putting up loud numbers across the board. Reaching a peak exit velocity of 100.4, he also had a sweet spot percentage of 100 for balls in play. He also had a max carry distance of 373 - an impressive round. Defensively he's taking good strides. His arm strength is there at 82 mph, while the footwork is showing improvement. It'll be interesting to see how he puts together his defense in game. One of Western Canada's premier players in the 2026 class.

7/28/24

Thierman was a two-time catcher at the Junior Future Games and quickly earned a spot on this year’s Future Games squad with an intriguing left-handed bat behind the dish. 6-foot-3, 185-pounds with some power to the pullside and came through with one of Canada’s biggest swings as he one-hopped the wall for a triple against Minnesota. The bat is more advanced than the defensive side right now but put together pop-times of 1.95-2.07 with a 77mph arm. Now an upperclassman, Thierman will really enter the spotlight this year for the Okotoks Dawgs and will need to continue swinging the bat at a high-level as it’s the major carrying tool right now. The backstop out of Alberta generated some of the most interest among West Coast prospects at the Future Games.

8/26/23

‘27 C/RHP Taye Thierman had one of the more mature overall games at the tournament and was one of the main attractions following a breakout 2023 campaign that saw him impress at the Jr. Future Games in Georgia. Mature for his age at 6-foot-2, 180-pounds and a smooth left-handed swing that sees the ball jump off his bat with ease. Came through with one of the biggest swings in the tournament, launching a no-doubt HR into the RF corner. Continues to be one of the top players, both offensively and defensively, everytime he takes the field with players his age.

8/01/23

Thierman is one of the more exciting prospects on the west coast of Canada, flashing upside at the dish with a twitchy swing from the left side with power potential. There’s intent to do damage with every swing, with aggressive takes and approach. There’s already pull-side power, as he matures in the box and starts to use the whole field with more consistency it’s only a matter of time before he’s a legit power threat. With bat speed that already reaches up to 96 mph in game, Thierman is one of the more impactful 2027 bats in the country. Behind the dish, he’s a quiet receiver with the ability to get low to the ground and work up. There’s mobility and athleticism in his blocking/catch and throw that will continue to trend upwards as he gets stronger/quicker. Thierman showed why he is an exciting prospect out of the Okotoks Dawgs program in Alberta and is a can’t miss AB down the road.

6/15/23

Thierman had one of the better days overall despite being one of the youngest players at the event. It started on the mound where he impressed with a short, quick arm out of a high ¾ slot. His fastball was consistently in the 80-81 mph range and for strikes. His slider, although currently having more of a cutter profile, has slight horizontal sweep and sat in the 69-71 mph range. The changeup when located down in the zone has effective fade that works well off his fastball at 72-73 mph.

In the field, Thierman has smooth actions at SS with the ability to transition himself into a throwing position efficiently and uses his strong arm, 83 mph infield velocity, to get the ball across the infield effectively. Behind the dish had the best POP time of the day at 1.87, using a quick transfer to get the ball out efficiently. Lastly, at the dish he uses a simple line drive, back up the middle approach with barrel control. Had one of the better max exit velocities at 89 mph. As one of the top 2027s in the country, Thierman will be a heavy follow for the next several years.
3/29/23

2027 C/RHP Taye Thierman impressed in multiple areas of the showcase and has advanced skills for his age. Lots to dream on with the size and body at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds and still just 14-years-old. Put together a good round behind the dish with quick actions and arm strength (74mph) leading to a 1.96 pop-time. Also a right-handed pitcher with plenty of upside on the mound and it’s a quick arm from a short slot and the fastball sat 80-81mph. Also worked with a curveball at 67-69 and changeup at 73-74mph. Was one of the youngest players at the showcase but fit right in with the older group.
