Calgary Future Games Trials: Quick Hits

On Thursday, June 15th, the PBR Alberta staff hosted the Calgary Future Games Trials at Seaman Stadium in Okotoks, British Alberta. This event featured 25 prospects from the 2025 and 2026 classes and allowed our staff an opportunity to get an in-depth look at the players looking to attend the Future Games next month in Georgia.

Earlier this week, we highlighted the top statistical performers from the event with our Statistical Analysis article. Today we continue our post-event coverage with Quick Hits, providing scouting notes and video on five players who stood out to our staff.

CALGARY FUTURE GAMES TRIALS: QUICK HITS

Alexandre Laurence C / 2B / Vauxhall, AB / 2025 Laurence performed well at our Future Game Trials both at the dish and in the field. Laurence flashed a good combination of both speed and power giving us our top 60 time at 6.90 and our top exit velocity at 97 mph. He also impressed behind the dish posting a 1.94 pop time and showed off his good footwork and smooth actions in the infield to go along with his 84 mph infield velocity. Taye Thierman C / RHP / Foothills Composite , AB / 2027 Thierman had one of the better days overall despite being one of the youngest players at the event. It started on the mound where he impressed with a short, quick arm out of a high ¾ slot. His fastball was consistently in the 80-81 mph range and for strikes. His slider, although currently having more of a cutter profile, has slight horizontal sweep and sat in the 69-71 mph range. The changeup when located down in the zone has effective fade that works well off his fastball at 72-73 mph. In the field, Thierman has smooth actions at SS with the ability to transition himself into a throwing position efficiently and uses his strong arm, 83 mph infield velocity, to get the ball across the infield effectively. Behind the dish had the best POP time of the day at 1.87, using a quick transfer to get the ball out efficiently. Lastly, at the dish he uses a simple line drive, back up the middle approach with barrel control. Had one of the better max exit velocities at 89 mph. Landon Kauffman OF / LHP / Okotoks Dawgs Academy, AB / 2025 Landon Kauffman has been swinging a hot bat all season long, and that continued at the Calgary Future Game Trials. Kauffman utilizes a strong lower half and impressive bat speed to generate an aggressive but controlled swing at the plate. He likes to stay back up the middle and utilizes bat-to-ball skills to stay there consistently. He showed the ability to generate pull-side power as he hit one out during his round of BP. In the field, he had the best outfield velocity on the day at 89 mph, also having one of the more accurate arms of any outfielder. Having been one the biggest threats in a talented Okotoks Dawgs lineup so far this year, he will be a 2025 to keep tabs on as the season continues. 2025 Landon Kauffman (@kauffman_landon) with one of the more consistent rounds of BP today. Pryor Woollett OF / LHP / Okotoks Dawgs Academy, AB / 2026 Woollett started off his impressive day on the mound. He sat 78-79 mph with the fastball out of a ¾ slot and a loose, quick arm. His slider and curveball both come in at 70-72 mph but each have unique and effective profiles out of the same arm slot. The slider has sweep with a little bit of depth that will generate swing/miss when down in the zone, while the curveball has more of an 11/7 profile. The changeup is still developing but shows signs of an effective offering when down in the zone as its fading action plays well off his fastball, which has more carry to it. At the dish, Woollett’s simple approach led to consistent line drives throughout his entire round. Hudson Kozicki RHP / RHP / Vauxhall, AB / 2025 Hudson showed well at the Calgary Future Games, having one of the more impressive bullpens of the event. Kozicki’s strong athletic frame (6”1 185lbs) and smooth delivery helped him stand out amongst the pitching field. His fastball sat 83-84 topping at 85 mph with a changeup that tunneled well off his fastball and which he located well at 76-77 mph. Hudson’s curveball (73 -74 mph) has good action, high spin, and shows the ability to keep the ball down in the zone while effectively using both sides of the plate. He shows confidence and poise when on the mound and has a good feel for all three of his offerings.
