C Tyler Waugh (2021, UAB) was a key contributor at the plate for the Lions in Game 2, driving in two runs on three hits and a walk hitting in the 3-hole. Arguably his best swing, however, came on the out that he recorded in the 4th. Standing at a durable 6-1, 190 pounds, Waugh stepped up and handled a perfectly-executed off-speed pitch down in the zone and drove it to deep center field that was run down for a fly out. The senior backstop, who also was the leading tackler for the Lions in football, possesses a smooth, polished swing from the right side and always seems to make solid contact in each look. Handles all pitchers behind the plate well with an efficient arm on throws to 2nd base.

Waugh is another C at this event that really did some good things offensively and defensively. Using an open stance, he has a big leg kick from the left side of the plate. You could really see the balls that he hit up the middle had some backspin. Defensively, the LHH C flashed consistent 1.98-2.02 pop times to go along with a C velo of 75 mph. Above average receiver during gameplay.

A very solid catcher that does a ton of nice things behind the plate. Loved the LH stroke at the plate that was a very simple set up and approach. No wasted movement in the swing and the head stayed still throughout. Showed an open stance and nice rhythm in the approach. Did a nice job of staying inside the ball with slight tilt in the bat path. Really solid arm action with a quick transfer on throws to 2B. Throws were accurate and the ball did not tail on him. Showed legit quickness blocking balls in the dirt and was quick to recover. Had a couple loud contact AB’s during game play.
