4/30/21

Has undoubtedly been one of the leaders that has led the Bucs into the 7A State Playoffs and has them playing as hot as anyone right now. A former Future Gamer from this past summer, Steele reached base in all three plate appearances in a tightly-contested 3-1 win in Game 1. The biggest swing of his day was a two-run shot that got out to right field in a hurry in the bottom of the 1st. Also singled and walked in his next two plate appearances to finish 2-for-2 with a single, home run, two RBI’s and a walk. Switch-hitting catcher that has shown power from both sides with a free and easy stroke from both sides. Pure hit tool with excellent ability to hit for both average and power.

2/23/21

'22 1B/C Lucas Steele (Samford) was a member of Team Alabama at this summer’s PBR Future Games & stood out with the bat in the process. He has continued to show that the best is his best tool. Steele has shown the ability to be able to hit for average and hit for some power, as he homered during a midweek contest vs. Helena HS. As a switch-hitter, we saw him from the left side exclusively vs. all right-handed pitchers. In his second at-bat while trailing, Steele took advantage of an elevated fastball over the middle of the plate and deposited it well over the right field wall for a solo shot. A former Future Gamer, he creates excellent extension and uses a strong lower-half to hit.

2/20/21

'22 1B/C Lucas Steele (Samford) had the most productive day for the Bucs in terms of stats & RBI’s, as he drove in two runs on two hits en route to a 6-5 victory. Steele, a former Future Gamer, is a switch-hitter, but stayed on the left-side of the plate versus all right-handed pitchers during the game. Recorded his first hit on an infield single that he beat the pitcher to the bag on and scored a run in the first inning. Came up big again for Hoover in the 5th inning when the Samford recruit worked the count with two strikes and caught a breaking ball over the plate and served it into the right field for a hard-hit RBI single to tie the game up. In addition to being able to hit for average, Steele also has significant power from both sides of the plate and has a track record of hitting for extra bases.

5/19/20

After seeing Steele this summer at the PBRT Southeast Summer Championships, we walked away very impressed with him, both offensively and defensively. He was constantly barreling up balls in Hoover from the left side for Excel Blue Wave. He shows a mature approach at the plate while using the whole field. Defensively, Steele controlled the opposing team’s running game behind the plate. He also handled Excel’s pitchers well for his age.
