6/11/19

Woody came in looking much more physical and his numbers backed that up. In a little less than 6 months, he has made a 6 MPH jump. His fastball was up to 88 from a high 3/4 arm slot, sitting mostly 85-87 from the left side, with good downhill plane. He spun the ball well with a hard slider at 75-78.

Starts an open stance, striding closed. Simple set up and load with a middle approach. Hands work well but lower half limits rotation causing him to pull off the ball occasionally. Arm strength was 88 from the outfield, using a crow hop to get momentum to home. Exit velo was 88 MPH.

1/27/19 Uncommitted. 6’1 170 frame. Simple stride getting him back to square, after starting slightly open. Made consistent contact out front to help ball get in the air to his pull side. If he forces his contact point back, it will allow him to use the more of the field and track off-speed pitches longer. Exit velo was at 84 MPH. In the outfield, threw 81 MPH, using a crop hop, showing good carry on his throws. The LHP has a high ¾ arm slot, creating good downhill plane at 80-82 MPH. Threw both change up and breaking ball with good arm speed and keeping his release point the same. As he continuous to develop, could see a jump in velo soon.

6/5/18 - 6-foot-1, 170-pound LHP/OF Drew Woody has really started to make progress physically and mechanically, turning in a 7.09 60-yard dash and 86 mph exit velo, in addition to flattening out his bat path to keep his barrel in the zone longer. Woody also ran his fastball up to 80 mph on the mound with a clean arm action. Curveball ranged from 65-69 mph with inconsistent shape. Change up was thrown at 73-74 mph with fastball arm speed and fading action. Athleticism and arm action make Woody an interesting follow on the mound as he continues to develop physically.

1/28/18 -Has added strength to 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame. Two-way prospect is solid athlete that’s intriguing as pitcher and outfielder with 7.21 60-yard dash. Worked 77-79 with his fastball, touching 80 with 3-pice arm action and tilted spine angle.  Mixed in 67-68 mph 1-7 curveball with consistent rotation and the ability to throw it below the zone. Offensively, hits from wider, slightly open base with very little stride. Swing has gotten shorter since our last look and now shows a more contact oriented approach. Line drive contact to the middle of the field in BP; 71 mph exit velocity. Comfortable, easy mover in the outfield made accurate throws with 80 mph velocity.

10/29/17 – 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame. Shows quiet setup with easy rhythm and good balance in swing. Linear bat path and line drive approach, making lots of solid contact. Shows solid carry and good accuracy on throws from the outfield with 79 mph velocity. Also pitched, working 74-77, T78 from high ¾ arm slot. Shows slight hook in back of arm action. 68-69 mph curveball showed consistent rotation and 1-7 shape, usually buried below the zone. Also threw developing 67-68 mph changeup that showed both cut and fade at different times.
