Willie Cornejo-Farmer had a great overall performance in game 3 vs team Canada. Two quality at bats along with a solid defensive day at 3B. Strong build on the corners, defensive ability has been in question for this prospect; however, he showed some ability on the left side in this matchup. Against team Canada, Cornejo-Farmer went 2-2 with 2 singles, an RBI, and a stolen base, and was awarded the Dick's Sporting Goods Player of the Game. On the week, Cornejo-Farmer led Team Arizona's offense going 4 for 6 with 2 doubles to the off side. Very simple at the plate, stays grounded well and lets his size and leverage take over. Consistent quality ABs were turned in all week. As reps continue to come, with his simple approach, the power to all fields should start to show in game play. High follow power potential bat.
6/08/22
6-foot-2 165 pounds, large build with strength throughout. Hit tool is best tool. Room for added athleticism and defensive ability. (Running) 7.45 runner in the 60. (Offense) RH. Max EV 98. Max Dist. 364. Simple set up at the plate which plays in his favor with size and leverage. Base just outside of shoulder width, slightly open to pitcher. Bat is rested on shoulder with a loose grip. Short stride brings him back to square, weight is on the back side and transferred forward. Bat path stays tight to body, slightly uphill path. Consistent fly ball/line drive contact to the big part of the field. Whole field power type bat with added consistency with barrel. (Defense) (1B) RH. IF velo 76. Good timing with feet around the bag while receiving. Big target. Good direction with footwork while receiving throws. Understands proper footwork on various balls at 1B. Have seen improvements defensively, will continue to follow defensive development.
Game action: 1-3 1B, BB
1/29/22
Large build with strength throughout. Strong lower half with simple actions. 7.71 runner in the 60. Moves well for his size. (IF) 72 mph IF velo. Good athleticism for size, and continuing to grow athletically. Best position as of now is 1B. Feet move well, balanced and in control. Room for added rhythm. Room for some improvement with the hands/glove work. If the feet and body get more synced up, and hands soften some, this will be a big time 1B prospect. Spends some time behind the dish as well, trending more towards 1B. (Hitting) RH. Max EV 94 mph. Max Dist. 337 feet. Looks the part in the box. Raw power and leverage, simple set up and swing mechanics. Base is just outside of shoulder width with a slight bend to the knees. Bat is rested on back shoulder. Somewhat of a two part stride.. stride, separates, then starts the swing. Stride is early, turns almost into a no-stride approach. Loads onto the back side and transfers weight forward. Ball is impacted very well when on time, tends to be out front on occasion. Ability to drive the ball deep to all parts. Big time power potential bat.
Game Results: 3-4 3B, RBI.
