Orfaly was another intriguing arm this week who’s committed to UBC. The 5-foot-11 right-hander was sharp during his start against Okotoks, worked quickly the first-time through the order with a three-pitch mix. The fastball sat 84-86 and he maintained throughout the majority of outing. He has feel for both his curveball at 74-76 and changeup at 78. Although none of his stuff is overpowering right now, he’s efficient with the ability to locate several pitches. The arm is clean and loose on the mound with the ability to add strength so there could be some velocity gains coming during his time at UBC.

Orfaly was very impressive at the event, as he did everything right and opened some eyes as he heads into the season. Daniel showed bat speed at the plate, with an athletic swing and clean moves that developed backspin line drives from gap to gap. Orfaly stays in his legs well and maintains balance and direction throughout his swing, making it easy to see that he will get consistent results in a game. Defensively he showed a good arm and clean actions and ran a sub-seven 60-time as well. Lots to love here as Daniel does everything on the diamond well.
Orfaly also showed his two-way player potential, throwing a quality bullpen with a fastball topping out at 83mph. It appears there is more in the tank, too, as his delivery was free and easy. Good breaking ball had some sharp movement to it, and he kept his changeup down, showing some late action to it. If Orfaly can put size on, velocity should follow, and the mechanics are athletic and clean, a good follow as either a pitcher or a position player.
