5/24/22

Heppner was one of the most dominant arms we saw in Kamloops at Best of the West which earned himself a spot on the Junior National Team. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound right-hander continued to pound the strike zone during the trip, throwing 54 strikes on 77 total pitches throughout two outings (70.1 %). Over 4.2 innings, Heppner walked just one batter, allowed five hits and struck out five. A little undersized on the mound but there’s compete, athleticism, good stuff and he throws strikes.

5/07/22

Heppner made a pair of appearances in Kamloops last week and his first saw him go 1-2-3 for the save, sitting 88-89 with the fastball. His second time out he got the start and was dominant again, sitting 88-90 this time and dominating with a fastball/curveball combination. There was plenty of swing and miss on both pitches and he was comfortable with the curveball in any count at 74-76mph. Up tempo, works quick and attacks hitters. Flashed a few changeups later in his outing. Heppner was productive on the mound and is an overall athlete, looking the part defensively and at the plate as well.

9/30/20

Heppner created a lot of interest on the mound with an impressive three-pitch mix and easy 85MPH fastball. However, it is hard to figure out where he is better currently. On defence, Ryan shows great instincts and versatility, as well as a strong and quick arm. He has good lateral movement speed and decent hands to be able to get a throw off quickly. Offensively, he has a quick swing and can spray line drives gap to gap relatively easily. If Heppner can continue his physical growth and put some size on over the next calendar year, it will be exciting to see what he can with an already good fast-twitch and instinctual baseball base. A must watch.

On the bump, Ryan was one of the top arms at the Fall Showcase. Heppner demonstrated an impressive, heavy fastball (82-84, max 85), complemented with a changeup (72-76) with late hand side run. Ryan's curveball (65-67) was refined and consistent with tight spin and late break. These are impressive numbers for Ryan's slim frame. Increased size and strength will make him a serious prospect for post-secondary programs.
