Johnson projects as a defense first catcher with good feel for the position. At the Abby Showcase, Johnson showed an aggressive forward move into the ball and suffered from a slightly inconsistent contact point. Defensively, Johnson shows good actions behind the plate in his receiving and his blocking. His throw downs were consistently in the 2.15-2.25 range and he showed a clean transfer and footwork. He has plenty of room to grow in his movements and with strength he can improve on a solid base.
