Cavanagh opened some eyes with his performance as a 2023 grad. Long and lean with lots of room to grow, Cavanagh showed high potential at a premier defensive position. The young shortstop displayed good arm strength and accuracy, clean actions and good range, and some fast-twitch on the ball's defensive side. The swing looked raw at the plate, but Cavanagh found barrels and drove balls all over the field. Good bat plane that stays through the zone a long time, and fast hands throughout the swing, make the bat look light in his hands. Cavanagh will benefit from some cleanup work to his moves; finding a more consistent stride and load sequence will help him stay consistent in games. Cavanagh is a name to look out for in the 2023 class.
