Tyler demonstrates the ability to be an offensive force. He can hit with power to all fields, has excellent plate discipline and an advanced approach at the plate. On this day, he had the opportunity to demonstrate that he can handle pitches up in the strike zone, down in the strike zone and to control the barrel with balls on both sides of the plate. He shows outstanding athleticism as a hitter and also in his defense at first base, his feet work well and his glove work around the bag is a plus. Tyler should have the opportunity to be a quality two way player at the next level. He shows the ability to be considered of the better players in his class in the state of Colorado.
Mejia coming off of TJ rehab and is returning at a very level. Considered the top uncommitted player in Colorado’s 2022 class, the LHP was 84-87 with great arm side run. Pitches to both sides of the plate. His FB attacks the hands of right handed hitters. CB 72-75 has a 12/6 action and is used early in counts and for a strike out pitch. CH 78-79 has plus movement and has deceptive quick arm speed. Strong lean build with athleticism. One of Mountain Vista’s top hitters, as well.
Big props to Tyler for fighting through rehab from Tommy John. Mejia showed his previous top prospect form with a fastball that topped out at 86.8, sitting in the 84-86 range. Great feel for his curveball at 70-72 and has a plus pitch with his 77 mph changeup. Room to grow and add strength. Very high ceiling on Mejia.
Uncommitted 6-foot-1, 155-pound left-handed pitcher helped lead Mountain Vista to another 5A Final Four run. Mejia went 5-0 on the season with a 3.06 ERA. In 36 innings pitched, Mejia struck out 33 batters. Polished and fluid on the mound, Mejia's fastball lives 81-82 mph with arm side run. He's square and inline to the plate with a loose arm from a 3/4 arm slot and effortless motion. Curve has late break with 2/7 shape. Change thrown with same arm speed as fastball at 72 mph with late fade. Will be one of the top left-handers in the state moving forward.
