A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Sam Ametrano: LHP/OF, (2023) out of Guilford, CT. is a 5-foot-7, 150-pound two-way prospect. In the box, Ametrano had a max exit velocity of 77 MPH with a (62.63 MPH bat speed average) and a (21.62 MPH hand speed average). He hits out of a balanced, athletic stance with the hands set just off the back shoulder. He stacks the weight over the back leg and uses a short stride to get into a solid hitting position. The bat takes a flat path to and through contact. During his round, Ametrano showed the ability to use the whole field and remain balanced. In the outfield, his best throw of the day was clocked at 70 MPH. As he worked through the defensive portion, he showed smooth feet, sure hands, and a clean exchange. In the 60-yard dash, he recorded a time of 7.29. On the mound, pitches from a simple, clean delivery. The shoulders stay level, he creates a good line with home plate and he finishes over his front leg. The arm works out of a high ¾ slot, producing a fastball that sits 68-70 MPH (Max spin 1629; Avg 1518),with arm side run. Ametrano also features a curveball (60-63 MPH)(Max spin 1687; Avg 1571) with sweeping action and a fading changeup (64-65 MPH).
7/13/21
5-foot-7, 150-pound, smaller, athletic frame, with room for added weight gains. A left-handed hitting two-way player, off the mound, works off of deception, smooth easy repeatable leg raise, loaded on the backside. The arm works from a high 3/4 slot, path is smooth and clean on the backside. The fastball was clocked at 70-71 mph, showing ride and bore to it. The changeup was a plus pitch, 64-66 mph. Mixed in a curveball at 64-65 mph. At the plate, sprays the baseball all over the yard, hands work with ease through the zone, shows the ability to handle the barrel. The exit velocity was clocked at 83 mph and ran a 7.54 sixty-yard dash. From the outfield, approach was under control, clean footwork, arm was clocked at 67 mph, short strider, uphill at times, easy fix with lengthening stride foot. Like the feel and pitch-ability off the mound.

3/08/20
5-foot-5, 120-pound, smaller, thin athletic frame, squared off shoulders, with plenty of room for added weight. A left-handed hitting two-way player, at the plate, taller, shorter even stance, hands are relaxed and loose, set just above the shoulders. The stride is longer, gains ground, with a level path, flat through the zone, with more line drives, middle to pull side approach. The backside lower half could provide more on time pop to the swing. The tee exit velocity was clocked at 70 mph and ran a 7.37 sixty-yard dash. Defensively, threw 68 mph, from a higher slot, using more of a two-step quick transfer. All throws were on target, and with a downhill flight. Off the mound, working strictly from the set position. The leg lift is smooth and slower, could build more momentum with it, slight pause at the gather. The direction is inline, front lead arm has some pull to it, needs to tracked a tick longer. The fastball was clocked at 65-66 mph, located down in the zone. The breaking ball was clocked at 56-58 mph showing proper spin, needs more fastball hand speed. Showed feel for the changeup at 58-60 mph, turning it over. Quick actions and movements, needs to add more strength and weight to aid in the development.
