8-9-17
6-foot-2, 225-pound, large, wide, thick athletic frame. The back is wide, lower half is strong and durable strong. A right-handed pitcher, who continues to impress, threw the baseball extremely well. The fastball was clocked at 80-82 mph has life, with heavy action to it. Showed the ability to locate it to glove side, gets out over front foot, real good extension on release. The arm is clean on the back side, works out of a high ¾ slot. The breaking ball reached 73 mph, late break has tilt to it. The spin is correct and shows the proper shape to it. The lower half can be engaged more, will help finish off pitches, take any added pressure off throwing shoulder, can help in the jumping of velocity. The changeup is still a work in progress, needs to get comfortable with the grip. Good looking arm, look for the velocity to end in the upper 80’s, someone is going to get a good one.

6/20/17
6-foot-2, 220 pounds, prototypical pitcher body, still room for some physical maturation. Lopez looks the part of a starting pitcher and is where he projects best at the next level. Broad shouldered and beginning to fill out, he seems built to withstand a starter’s workload. The fastball was 80-82 mph and Lopez is at his best pitching downhill with an over the top arm slot. Slight arm side fade and can get some sink, Lopez throws a heavy ball. There could be another 3-5 MPH in the tank. The changeup is in need of development but there were flashes of an effective pitch. His best secondary is the curveball, which was thrown between 69-72 mph. At its best, it was a tight breaking ball with good vertical movement and slight horizontal movement, giving it some two plane action. Consistency with the secondary offerings are Lopez’s key for playing at the next level but the weapons in his arsenal are there.
