Committed to Florida State out of Hillsborough CC (FL).

5/28/16- South Florida commit who stands at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds with a lean and athletic body with loose actions. He is currently ranked 45th in Florida. He has a simple and repeatable delivery and consistently finds his release point. He has a quick, high ¾ arm action and is very consistent. At FACA he sat 85-88 mph and showed off his usual 72-75 mph that broke two planes and had good depth. He also displayed a 79-82 mph changeup. Velez is one of the better lefty arms in the state and should be a draft pick next week.
2/18/16- 6-foot-1, 185-pound USF recruit with a lean, athletic build. During his windup he has a slight pause on his leg kick before delivering to the plate. High ¾ arm slot. Disrupts some timing for opposing batters. Shows good presence on the mound and locks in. Fastball sat 85-86 mph with tailing action mixing in a 74-76 mph change up with sink and similar fastball arm slot speed. Curveball initially sat 68-70 with a 12/6 break with depth, but later on in the game put a little more behind it and turned into a ¾ breaker that sat 70-72 mph. Demonstrates a quick swing at the plate from the left hand side. Smart player.
10/17/15- Committed to USF.
2/10/15 - Uncommitted Junior. 6-foot-1,185 pound lefty with a lean, athletic, and projectable body. He has a quick motion before pausing at the top of his delivery. His arm goes straight back toward second base after he breaks, and his front foot lands in-line. He has a high ¾ release with a slightly stiff arm. He has three pitches he throws for strikes at any time in the count. Both his fastball and changeup look very similar. Both have arm-side run with the same arm speed. His changeup has late sink and is his out-pitch at 78-81 MPH. His curveball has a slurvy motion but has good depth and he locates it well at 73-75 MPH. He lives away with his fastball that has a late tail at 85-88 MPH. Against Bloomingdale he had 3 IP, 4 K's, 0 ER.
