5/02/24

Showing at least one grade better bat speed this season than last spring, Wright impressed at the plate and in the field. He showed sure hands and an average arm with good accuracy across the diamond. It’s just enough to play on the left side of the infield, but might be best suited for second base at the pro level. Home-to-first he ran a 4.45 on a groundout to third base, which is below average (4.3 = average). At the plate he sets up with high hands that he drops into a power slot during his load. There is excess head movement accompanying his swing, but he is long through the zone with very good extension through contact. After a subpar junior/draft season (.249/.325/.399), Wright has rebounded nicely with a .323/.353/.640 production line with 16 home runs and he has positioned himself for likely selection in the top ten rounds as a senior prospect.

8/01/22

Cape Cod: Batted .349 with 11 home runs for the Tigers this past spring, yet wasn't able to sustain that momentum at the plate for Wareham with a .206/.307/.262 slash this summer despite showing some feel for the zone. However, his defense was solid at shortstop, showing an average arm with athletic actions and strong range.

5/25/19

Has an athletic frame at 6 foot and 180 pounds, but room for growth. Good first step in the infield and moves athletically while fielding out front and stays through the ball well. Has a clean exchange with good carry and accurate with his throws.  Has balance approach at the plate with a smooth load and fast bat speed with 92 mph exit velocity. Has a little bit of a long stride, but stays balanced and level through the zone. Gap to gap power while showing some power to the pull side and has barrel awareness.

12/08/18

South Florida commit, currently ranked No. 73 in FL and No. 470 Overall. 6-foot, 180-pound right-handed middle infielder, strong, athletic frame, lean muscle. Offensively, continued to show a short, quick swing, aggressive intent, stays level, gap-to-gap type hitter, recorded a 91 mph exit velocity off a tee with wood. Defensively, confident in abilities, looks the part, arm works short from multiple angles, 82 mph across the infield. Fields position athletically with soft hands, quick on transfers, fluid footwork.

7/26/18
Committed to the University of South Florida.
6/23/18

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 175 pounds with a strong, athletic frame and room to still fill out. Continued to stand out offensively where he consistently found the barrel during batting practice, spraying line drives all over the field deep into the gaps. The hands are quick and he shows a confident approach with a short, quick swing. Takes smart at-bats and jumps on the fastball. Barreled an RBI single into left field during game play while also registering a 90 mph exit velocity in the cage off a tee. In the field he shows athletic actions, range, and sure hands. Throws to the bag are accurate and topped out at 80 mph. As Wright continues to fill out his frame he should see a jump in power at the plate. High uncommitted follow that shouldn’t be uncommitted for too much longer.

6/03/18

The uncommitted standout sophomore continued to impress at the plate with quick hands, and a short, quick stroke that finds the barrel, consistently driving the ball into the gaps. Takes smart at-bats and shows a confident approach. Projectable, athletic body. Shows athletic actions in the field, fields the ball under control. Throws to the bag are accurate. High uncommitted follow. There’s more gap-to-gap power to come as he continues to add to his frame.

4/27/18

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 175 pounds. Has noticeably gotten taller and added to his frame over the last several months. Impressed at the plate where he showed a balanced approach, quick hands, and a short, compact swing that consistently found the barrel. Went 2-for-4 on the night which included two line drive singles. The hands work in sync and shows confidence in the box. With some room to still add to his fame, Wright should see a jump in power in the near future. Runs the bases aggressively and gets good jumps. In the field, he showed some range and worked through the ball under control with accurate throws across the diamond. Wright will be a strong uncommitted 2020 follow with high offensive potential the rest of the spring heading into the summer.

12/22/17

Stands at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds with a strong, athletic frame. Wright has made a noticeable jump over the past several months as he immediately stood out during batting practice with strong, quick hands and above average bat speed with a quality path through the zone. With a leg kick for his trigger, he consistently found the barrel during batting practice and produced multiple hard hit line drives. The swing works in rhythm and the ball jumps off the bat. In the field he showed range, good actions, and fielded the ball under control and out in front as his throws topped out at 79 mph across the diamond. Wright will be an interesting follow this spring as he will look to translate his improved skillset to the field.

9/17/16

The projectable, 5-foot-10, 155 pound middle infielder showed a lot of projectable tools. Offensively, the right handed hitter showed an aggressive approach with plus bat speed for his class. A medium leg kick trigger and good hand load leads to a level line drive swing in which he consistently found the barrel. He also showed the ability to get quality use out of his lower half, staying balanced through the swing. He’ll have to calm his head down to stay consistent with better pitching, but the tools project well. Defensively, he showed above average defensive line with his actions already playing high than his class. He shows a quick first step, rhythm through the ball and soft hands that work well. The arm also plays well enough, topping out at 81 with more to come. The tools are present and is a very high follow going forward.
