10/16/16- Florida recruit. The 6-foot, 195 pound C/3B is a strong stocky catcher. Defensively he shows solid all around actions with his pop time ranging from 2.0-2.05. The right handed hitter has a compact swing and looks to drive the ball to the opposite field. This resulted two doubles, one down the right field line and on into right-center. Very solid player and will be interested to see how he continues to develop offensively and if the strength turns into pull side power in games.

6/4/16- Florida recruit. Currently ranked No. 34 in the Florida 2017 class, No. 100 overall. Thick, strong, solid build on a 6-foot, 200 pound frame. Physical lower half with strong hands and forearms. Received well behind the plate. Showed a quick release with accuracy on his throws down to 2B. Threw out one of the top base stealers at the event. 1.88 second pop time. Upright with a quiet, relaxed stance at the plate. Makes hard contact and can drive the ball with some authority.

7/13/15- 6 feet 195 pounds with a strong, stalky, and athletic body. Upright at the plate, quiet, and relaxed. Small separation for his load and has a nice swing plane. Simple approach and has good bat speed. Hard line drives to all fields and the ball really jumps off his bat.

6/14/15- 6 feet 183 pounds with a strong and athletic body. Soft hands in the field with an average ML arm across the diamond. At the plate he doesn’t get much of a separation. Short swing with a nice swing plane. The ball jumps off his bat.

12/14/14 - Loose lean projectable body. Good actions with soft hands. Enough arm but plays better at 2B. Loose bat with a good path. Has quickness in hands and stays inside ball. Bat will improve with added strength.

8/1/19:6-foot, 200 pound backstop hovered around a .300 batting average for much of the regular season. However, Smith’s 1-for-20 finish with ten strikeouts dropped his final regular season slash to .233/.343/.400. During my look, his swing was smooth and easy, but had some length making him late to contact. Showed a controlled stride with good separation and extension and used his hips well during his swing. Behind the plate he blocked well with below average receiving skills. Showed an above average arm with average carry, although his 2.00-2.05 POP times had below average accuracy as most throws were off-line. After a strong sophomore season at the plate for the Gators (.270/.392/.428) and in a weak college draft class for catchers in 2020, Smith is likely to jump into early Day Two consideration if he can maintain his offensive production while showing improvement behind the dish next spring. (Seifert)

8/8/18:Athletic frame with a strong build. Smooth, low effort swing that produces consistent line drive contact. Average bat speed that should generate more power as he develops and gets stronger. Presently, has more of a contact approach. Defensively provides value in a variety of ways. Average catcher with a strong throwing arm and sound actions. Additionally, shows the ability to play third base and second base with a reliable glove hand. Arm strength translates easily from behind the plate to the infield. Expect Smith to continue to defend at a high level this spring and also hit for contact more consistently while developing into one of the top college catchers for the 2020 draft.(D Jurik)
