Positional Profile: OF/3B - Bethune-Cookman. Nothing flashy, but very solid all the way around. Swing is simple, but really uses the lower half well and simplicity will lead to more strides as he matures.
Body: 6-foot-1, 195-pounds. Stocky, with strength and athleticism.
Defense: Athletic outfielder who gets quality reads. Likely an above average corner outfielder.
Arm: RH. OF - 91 mph. Above average arm with carry and accuracy in outfield.
Hit: RHH. Balanced, wide base with more weight on back leg than front. Simple into load  Direct to the ball and level through the zone. Uses the lower half well to clear and stay balanced and strong. Simple swing that is on time consistently. Produced four hits on the weekend.
Power: 98 mph exit velocity. Strong lower half generates bat speed and the present strength translates to gap power with more pull side. Really like how the lower half works and will continue to add power as he adds strength to the lower half that already works well.
Run: 6.69 runner in the 60.

Positional Profile: OF/3B, Bethune Cookman
Body: 6-foot-1, 183-pounds. Has a strong legged, athletic build.
Defense: Fields off left side of the body, presenting glove early with a one handed gather, and fluid footwork.
Arm: RH. OF - 86 mph. Has a loose, over the top arm slot.
Hit: RHH. Starts with an athletic wide based setup, short knee lift into a short stride, with hands loading straight back causing a barrel tilted load.  Swings a level bat path, with quick bat speed.
Power: 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Gap to gap, line drive approach, squaring up the baseball.
Run: 6.68 runner in the 60. Athletic, quick runner, above average speed.

Portes was all over our leaderboards from the weekend. The 6-foot, 177 pound lean athlete tied for 2nd at the event with a 6.87 60, dropped the 3rd best exit velocity at 93 mph off the bat, and topped all outfielders, clocking in at 88 mph from right field. In the outfield, Portes plays balls aggressively with his momentum towards the infield and generating power in the lower half as he gets the arm out front creating extension and carry to the ball. He holds his hands high, right above his head at the plate and from there pushes them back in separation. He lands on the front foot but transfers the weight well enough and keeps his hands back until he triggers. This keeps his center of gravity and allows him to pivot with quick hands and optimum bat speed.
