3/4/16- Miami commit who stands at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds with a lean, athletic, and loose body with strength. Soft hands in the field with light feet and plus arm strength. At the plate he is slightly open and is quiet and relaxed. He gets a small separation for his load, has a flat swing plane, and possesses good bat speed. He could be a legit two-way player at Miami but his potential to be a high draft pick is on the mound.
2/16 - Velocity was down a bit from his first outing in which he was very good. Tonight was 90-94 mph, down from 93-97 a couple of weeks ago. More effort in the delivery, and less life on his fastball. Lacked the mound presence he had earlier. Still very young on the mound.
2/2/16 - Loose live easy working arm. Fastball was 93-97 mph with late life. Curveball was 68-72 with 3/4 tilt and good bite. Is improving. Will develop with reps. CHG is a work in progress and will also improve with reps. Looks like a short reliver but could develop into a starter with reps and instruction. Struck out 9 of 10 hitters he faced tonight. Definitely making some noise with scouts.
3/23/15 - Worked 94-96, only threw one fastball at 93. Curve ball was up to 78 and threw one change up at 87.
5 IP, Hit, 1 run, 0 Earned, BB, 9 K's.
2/27/15 - Miami commit. 6-foot-2, 200 pound two-way guy with a strong, athletic body. He shows good energy and live actions. In the field he is smooth with soft hands. He has good speed (looked like a 6.7-6.8) but his feet at short are a little heavy. He has a plus ML arm across the diamond with a short/high ¾ arm action. Can make all of the routine plays at short stop with limited range. At the plate he has an open stance, his hands are high, and he gets a good hand load that allows for power and his bat to get into a good slot. Ball jumps off his bat and hits with authority to all fields. He had two triples against Stoneman Douglas that were roped both to left and right field.
12/7/14 SF Elite tryout - Average sized body with looseness. Showed decent actions and hands in field with a plus ML arm. Has an easy working arm.  Did not pitch.

Two-way talent with premium arm strength. Works in the 89-91 range, but has been up to 94.

8-1-2018: Strong bodied, six-foot-two, 205 pound reliever who showed three above average pitches. Fastball up to 95 mph (2100-2400 rpm spin rate) in his all-star game appearance. During two other regular season appearances, fastball ranged from 88-93 mph. Also showed an above average 84-88 mph slider with a 2400 spin rate and hard, late life. Third pitch was an above average 83-84 mph changeup with big tail. Controlled the movement well. Struck out 32 batters in just 21 innings pitched this summer. Sophomore-eligible by age in 2018 but undrafted, Veliz will return to Miami this fall as a likely Day Two draft prospect in 2019. (Seifert)

2-27-2018: 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, a big, strong frame, especially in the lower half. Has some length in the arm action with a wrap behind. The arm is quick and when extended out front the fastball had late life. The fastball worked mostly 88-93 touching 94 mph. Two-pitch fastball/slider combo with the slider having a late, sweeping action at 80-83 mph. Some present swing and miss on both pitches, but some effort and the two pitches project as a reliever.
