Menedez is a strong and powerful catcher at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds. He moves very well behind the plate for his size. He has a quick transfer from the glove with an above average arm. Mendez had pop times of 1.95-2.00. Offensively, Mendez starts in a slightly open stance. His swing is simple and easy and produces some raw pull-side power. He led the entire field with an exit velocity of 97 mph. Mendez has an extremely high offensive ceiling and should be a name to keep an eye on in the future.
11/09/19
Big 6-foot-2, 220 pound frame. Thick and strong throughout. Offensive upside is big with above average bat speed and advanced movements and connection. Loose and easy with low effort. The raw power is his big tool, but he also showed bat to ball skills and the ability to control the strike zone. Defensively, he’s above average, but the bat is ahead of his defense. He popped a 2.12 with some arm strength that will get better. The feet can improve, but the transfer and his hands were quick. Above average blocking in the game. Young, really intriguing power bat that will get tons of interest from some top programs in the nation. Best exit velocity of the day at 92.
9/15/18
Immediately stands out with his physical, large frame and a strong lower half standing at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds. Impressed both offensively and defensively on the day. At the plate, he shows strength throughout his swing and the ball jumps off the bat. Makes hard contact consistently. During the game he got under one, but still managed to drive the ball deep into the left-center field gap for a standup double. Behind the plate, he shows an above average arm with accuracy on his throws to the bag. Threw out multiple runners during the game. High follow.
8/15/18
Physical frame with a strong lower half above average strength for his age. Took a couple of loud rounds of batting practice where he showed some present pull-side pop with gap-to-gap power potential. Ball jumps off the bat and he creates hard, loud contact. Had one of the top exit velocities on the day at 92 mph off a tee. Impressive young offensive catcher with power.
