08/04/18- Big, strong, mature 6-foot-2, 240 pound. Dowdy worked 79-81 mph on the mound and filled up the strike zone in this two innings of work, striking out two. Defensively, he moves well around the bag at first and is an overall above average defender. The present strength translates offensively. He has a fairly simple swing and generates above average bat speed with an exit velocity of 93 mph. He had a double to right against Team Mid-Atlantic and there is above average power potential.
08/18/17 - 6-foot-2, 240 pound 1B/RHP. Offensively, power is his best tool. He has a toe tap load and is aggressive through the zone. He can get rotational, but when everything is on time and extended he has pull side power. This showed in batting practice where he was one of three players to hit a ball out of the ballpark.
06/21/17 - Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 240 pounds the big first baseman showed flashes of pull side power. Hands worked well in the zone while being on plane throughout his swing. Could see more improvement with a more balanced lower half and body control. Defensively, showed good hands with a strong arm and some feel around the bag. Improved footwork on ground balls and around the bag also could help with balance at the plate. On the mound, he sat 77-79 with a short, quick arm action. Also showcased a lower ¾ arm slot with arm side run. Could be a good two way follow as he grows.
