7/30/26
It has simply been a banner year and then some for the recent state champion who has pitched at a high-level across both the spring and summer. Clean, repeatable cross-fire action with whippy arm speed from a tough slot and wiry 6-foot-0, 165-pounds with a velo jump inbound as physical maturity is coming in a hurry. Pitchability and competitiveness stand out as he owns the strike zone paired with a chance for 3 future advanced offerings. Struck out 5 across 2.0 IP while generating swing-and-miss with the entire arsenal. Mixes both 4S and SNK shapes at 87-89 (T90 MPH) with command throughout. Outlier traits on the slider at 74-77 with innate feel to spin consistently at 2900 + RPM, and ability to manipulate for whiffs or freezes. Changeup is a weapon to LHH with excellent ability to tunnel off the fastball at 81-84 while showing tumble and falls off the table. Plus-plus makeup and high academics only make the profile for Grubbs that much more intriguing and valuable innings at a p4 appear to be on the horizon for the spring of ‘28.
3/08/26

Uncommitted. The right-hander had the full mix working while showing off pitchability to complete the region sweep. Tossed 5.0 IP with 2 hits, 0 earned runs, 0 walks, and 9 strikeouts. Stands a lean 5-foot-11, 153-pound with present arm speed and plenty more to project. Works from a low slot with looseness to the arm stroke and feel for a deep 4-pitch arsenal. Fastball lived 84-86 with excellent command throughout the zone while offering a heavy sink and run sinker off it at 83-85 that froze batters along with inducing plenty of whiffs. Spun the slider at 75-77 with feel to manipulate the shape for more sharp sweep or depth. Changeup was mixed in at 78 as well. Grubbs was feeling it all night long as he controlled the tempo and attacked in-the-zone with intent. The junior two-way will be a quality addition to a recruiting class across multiple levels and the Dragons look to be an extremely tough team to beat when the 1-2 punch atop the rotation of Rice and Grubbs are locked in.

The incoming junior continues to string together quality starts one after another. Grubbs would put together an impressive line in a win for USA Scout. Striking out 6 across 4.0 IP and only allowing 1 ER in a CG run-rule win. Pitchability stands out with ability to mix well and hit spots with all three of his pitches. Grubbs operates from a low ¾ slot with loose whip to the arm action and ability to drop slot that creates an uneasy look for opposing batters. Fastball sat 81-84 in this outing with sharp arm-side run and sink as the RHP has been up to 87 this summer. Grubbs shows advanced feel for his slider at 71-73 (2800+ RPM) with sweep and ability to manipulate for heavy swing-and-miss. Changeup tunnels well off the fastball at 75-77 with depth. A recent transfer this offseason, Grubbs will be a big piece for the Dragons on both sides of the ball in the spring.

6/19/24

Uncommitted. Grubbs was on the barrel all day Sunday in the run-rule win. Picking up a backside double and a single up the middle. Displaying loose actions in the box with quiet confidence and good feel for the barrel. The right-handed hitter showed an all-fields approach with great leverage through the zone. Always on time, as the hands stay back and explode through the zone. An athletic defender that showed off the range, with a strong arm. Will be a name to know as the frame continues to fill out.
