New York Games (June 27-29, 2016)
Garciais 6-foot-3 and weighs 205 pounds.  Garcia ran a 7.70 60 (with a 7.41 on record)  Offensively- Hands ear level, off back shoulder, slightly open in athletic position. Small toe-touch stride and good bat angle. Open hips very nicely, and lets bat drag with the zone level. Rolls off front leg a bit after contact, but activates back side well. As Garcia continues to grow into his body, the already impressive 96 MPH exit velocity, which is up 5 MPH from July 2015, will surely increase.  Defensively- Upright set up has good feet and stays down on ball well. Great length and a big target to throw to at first. Has a sidearm-to-3/4 arm slot and throws 80 MPH across the diamond from 1B (+3 MPH from July 2015). Pitching- Sets up in stretch position, thigh high leg kick, doesn’t stay long on back leg. Quick arm action to sidearm release. Finishes athletically with his FB dropping a touch with the lower arm slot to 75-78 MPH. Movement and sink a new byproduct from this angle. CB 63-66 mph; with more sweeping/slider action then from the 3/4 slot in the past.
Fall 2015
Moved to South Forsyth HS in Cummings, GA.
Futures Games (July 7-9, 2015)
Garcia, one of the more intimidating physical presences on the mound and at the plate, will be a 2018 grad at Red Hook HS. Featured an exit velocity of 91 MPH (up from 88 in February) while also improving his 60 from 7.50 to 7.41. Was 77 MPH across the diamond from 1B. Defensively- Joey is primarily a first baseman he presents a large target at 6'4" but also has a soft glove and is clean with his footwork around the bag. Offensively- Joey is quiet with his timing mechanisms, stays back into contact and explodes through the heart of the baseball. High ceiling within the power department. Pitching- Joey showed a clean delivery and big curveball from a high 3/4 slot. More in the tank velocity wise, looking forward to see his progress as he could develop into a legitimate "2-way" player at the next level.
Futures Showcase (Feb. 28, 2015)
Garcia stands an impressive 6-foot-3, 190-pounds with projection written all over him - chance to be very special. Offensively- At the plate he uses an upright approach, hands power to the ball - 88 mph exit velocity, path is short and strong, barrel stays mostly level through the contact zone, uses long extension, high finish, balance through his swing. Defensively- At 1B he fields the ball out in front, bends his back some - needs to work on using his legs more, quick arm action, throws from a lower-3/4 slot 76 mph. Pitching - On the mound he uses a side step, high knee lift, hands high near his back side ear. Tempo is paced. Arm action is back slightly towards 2B, shorter and quick. He strides long, throws from a high-3/4 power slot with a fastball sitting 79 mph. Head is over his front knee on release, gets his back side through his finish. Above average player all around.
