5/9/18 -�Strong, mature bodied left-fielder with the bat as his tool. Plus bat strength with average bat speed. Very quiet setup with an upright stance and low, relaxed hands. Hits against a firm front side. Overall, easy and repeatable mechanics with a short, late hand load. Showed a flat, line drive swing on this look, yet his 13 home runs may tell a little different story. A bit more of a hand load with more lift (launch angle) to his swing may benefit him even more, but it’s hard to argue with his current production (.329/.448/.652) in the SEC. Near average defender with slightly below average range and arm strength. Perfectly played a line drive right at him, turning sideways and holding his ground until he got a better look and feel for its destination. Near average runner underway. He’s similar to another senior left fielder, Devlin Granberg from Dallas Baptist who will also be drafted in the Top 10 rounds, however Granberg is a step above in my evaluation. Expect McGovern to be drafted around the seventh round as a bonus pool saving senior prospect.
