Edwards is a medium framed right-handed pitcher who has consistently gotten outs when we have seen him in the past. The Deep South was more of the same, and Edwards does it with aggressive strike throwing ability from an on-line arm action and hides the ball very well. His breaking ball (66-68) was more a go too pitch here and when located it was very effective. Edwards had a strong 2019 campaign for Model High School and will look to build upon that this Spring.
Deep South Invite 10/14/18: Rett Edwards is a medium framed right-hander with some moxie. He is athletic kid with a repeatable compact delivery. He has not started to climb from a velocity standpoint, but make no mistake there are strong ingredients to be a very productive pitcher at the next level. Edwards is aggressive to the zone with a clean arm stroke, that stays on line to the point hitters do not see the baseball until the last possible moment. He can really spin the ball with some finish too it. His combination of deception and breaking ball are going to allow Edwards to change eye levels with his fastball up in the zone. This kid has an idea of who he is on the mound and as you see his velocity climb, look for Edwards to be a tough one to handle.
8/11/2018- Peach State Games - The medium framed right hander from Model high school shows plus pitchability on the mound. He hides the ball extremely well and flashes the ability to sink his fastball at 74-78. He backs up his deceptive fastball with plus command of a curveball that has the makings of an outpitch at 66-68. His breaking ball shows late 11-4 break and is played up because of location and hitters inability to pick-up the baseball out his hand. Pitches with a plan and is aggressive to the zone. Edwards is the kind of kid that will be effective at the next level, even if his fastball only gets into that mid 80’s range.
