8-8-2018: 6’1, 205 pounds. Athletic looking build with a developed frame. Proportionally built between his upper and lower body. Simple mechanics and body control allow Shuman to attack the zone with above average control of his offerings. After two solid seasons at Georgia Southern, he’s issued only 39 BB in 154.2 IP. He brought that command of his FB/breaking ball to the Cape this summer and only gave up seven free passes in 32.2 regular season innings. FB works mostly 88-91 and peaks at 92. Relatively straight but with the ability to work to both sides of the plate and down. SL has quality velo at 82-85 and consistently finds the zone. On this particular outing Shuman had a tough time finishing hitters and gave up quite a bit of contact. Didn’t get a glimpse at a third offering. Given his natural feel for pitching, shouldn’t be difficult for him to expand on his repertoire and give himself more options to put hitters away with. (D Jurik)
