8/2/16 - Good athlete and showed off his arm behind the plate. He nailed one base stealer with a 2.0-second pop time and then made a nice pick on a tough pitch in the dirt and fired a strong, accurate throw down to second, though the runner was safe.
7/14/16 - Smoked a double over the center fielder’s head. He also lined out hard to third base. Williams has a physical frame at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, and is a good athlete. When he gets behind the plate, he has a strong arm and quick transfer that makes it hard for runners to steal. He is committed to Auburn.
6/22/16 - Immediately made an impression. He has leverage in his swing and creates bat speed with his quick, strong hands. The ball jumped off his bat and he showed above average raw power. His arm looked at least average in the outfield and then he had pop times in the 1.9-2.0 second range behind the plate. An Auburn recruit, he has a physical frame at 6-foot-2, 213 pounds
8/14/18:After a fantastic freshman season at Auburn where he hit .291 with 12 home runs, Williams continued to show off his bat skills in the Cape. Over just 66 at-bats, he batted .303 with more walks (21) than strikeouts (19). At six-foot-three, 215 pounds, Williams provides a presence in the batter’s box. Offensively, he set up with a slightly spread stance. Took a leg lift load with good weight transfer and separation. Very good rhythm throughout. Has some hand movement with his load as his hands start at shoulder level, go down to load and then slightly back up to start his swing path forward. When he’s on, it’s a timing mechanism. When he’s off, it will be considered a hitch. I saw a timing mechanism. Used all fields during the games, while showing above average raw pull power in batting practice. It’s a long ways to go before the 2020 draft, but Williams certainly looks the part of top round bat. (Seifert)
3-28-2018:6’3/215 freshman OF Steven Williams also impressed with an average arm from right field and ran 4.33, 4.37 down the line. He has very good power potential and should eliminate some of the swing/miss at the plate as he gains experience at the college level. (Seifert)
