7/28/17 - Well on his way of cementing his status as the premier catching prospect in the 2018 draft class. The muscular 6-foot, 200-pound Vanderbilt recruit stood out both with his arm strength and during BP. Banfield, who also shined at the Tournament of Stars in late June, fired consistent pop times of 1.80-1.90 with double-plus carry to second base, and highly athletic feet. Offensively, he has an aggressive approach that generates advanced bat speed and lift, which resulted in several home runs.
7/10/17 - Named to Team USA 18U trials roster.
7/1/17 - Excellent athlete. On a strikeout pitch in the dirt, he smothered the ball and chased down the batter, three-quarters of the way up the first base line, to complete the out. He also threw a base stealer out with a 2.01-second pop time. The throw at online carry and was on the bag.
6/27/17 - Strong frame with lean strength at 6-foot-1, 198 pounds. He showed a good path in BP, producing easy pop from the right side. In the game, he went 1-for-2 with a double that was squared up to right-center field and had a 99 mph exit velocity.
