USA CNT: Crowell made a huge leap to stardom as a sophomore at FSU this spring, going 6-1, 2.12 with 72 strikeouts and 17 walks in 51 innings over 28 relief appearances. He did not allow an earned run over four appearances with Team USA, two in North Carolina and two in Haarlem. With a wiry 6-foot, 170-pound frame, Crowell lacks the physicality of the other pitchers on this list, but he is a live athlete whose loose, whippy three-quarters arm action generates electric stuff. During one multi-inning appearance at training camp, Crowell sat at 93-95 in his first inning of work, striking out the side with heaters at 93 and 94 along with an 84 mph slider. His velocity dipped a bit in his second frame but was still plenty firm at 90-93. Crowell’s crossfire delivery creates a tough look for lefthanded hitters, but he does have a tendency to miss to the arm side, particularly against righties. Crowell has one of the better sliders in his class, a true out pitch at 83-85 with tight spin in the 2500-2700s and wicked bite. He also shows decent feel for a mid-80s changeup with some fade, giving him a useful third pitch against righties. Crowell clearly profiles as a reliever, but lefties with his arm strength and elite ability to spin the slider are always in demand.
2/21/22
Loose armed lefty Wyatt Crowell made two scoreless appearances in the series. With a fastball up to 92 mph he showed a quick arm and an easy delivery. There's likely more in the tank for the slender-bodied six-footer who also showed a usable low-80s slider.
6/23/20
Athletic medium framed LHP comes from a L3/4 to 3/4 with excellent feel for spinning the baseball. The FSU commit runs his fastball into the upper 80's and pitches aggressive to the zone. Has some deception and moxie to what he does.
