3/05/23

After a solid 2022 spring in the batter’s box (.336/.417/.500) especially at the College World Series, Harris continued to build upon his draft resume with a .269/.321/.346 slash last summer in the Cape. The 6-foot, 215-pound left handed hitter does not possess a pure swing, but he continued to put the bat on the ball with some power production (5-for-12, 2 2B, 3 BB, 2 SO) and raised his season line to a .391/.444/.630 slash. A below average runner down the line with an awkward arm swing, Harris showed agile feet with a good ability to shift and block behind the plate. He also showed above average to near plus arm strength throughout the Classic, producing POP times of 2.04 and 1.97. He also received well, occasionally stealing a borderline pitch for a strike. His deep setup behind the hitter is something that needs to be addressed and would likely improve many areas of his defensive game, as it would for any catcher. Entering the weekend we had Harris as a potential third-to-fourth round draft talent and he did nothing to disprove that projection. At this point he remains one of the top three catchers in this year’s college draft class.

Cape Cod: After a rock solid spring at the plate (.336/.417/.500) for the National Champions, left handed hitting catcher Calvin Harris (2023/Mississippi) continued to build upon his draft resume with a .269/.321/.346 slash this summer. Athletic with average raw power, he also showed above average arm strength from behind the plate.
