Heartland Scout Day: Tall, athletic frame at 6-foot-3, 215 Patzner showcases a fastball up to 92 mph, mostly sitting 89-91 from a H3/4 slot. Loose arm action with full path. Fluid delivery, lands on-line. Average extension out front. Repeats well with moderate effort. Likely more velo in there. Worked on the side of his slider, which showed smaller, more cutter-like break at 79-83 mph. Best secondary offspeed was an average to above at times changeup. Good arm speed and feel for the pitch at 78-81 mph. Showed occasional late dive and tail.
8/6/17- 6-foot-3, 205-pound right-handed pitcher. #5 ranked player in Iowa 2018 class; #382 in PBR Overall. Thicker durable build. Controlled tempo into tuck and turn delivery. Has direction to plate. Flashes above avg. arm strength. Some stiffness to front side but arm is quick enough to get out front. Fastball was 88-91 mph with slight run and sink into RHH. 11/5 curveball has solid/avg. shape with small break at plate. Showed solid changeup; appropriate fade and sink for strikes.
2016 Future Games- 6-foot-3, 205-pound right-handed pitcher. #198 ranked 2018 in PBR Overall. Projectable build that should continue to add strength. Higher leg kick, tuck and turn delivery, hides ball from hitter, and fastball comes out of hand well, exploding on hitter. Patzner sat predominantly 87-89 mph, touching 91 mph consistently, with one ghost reading up to 93 mph. Secondary offerings show promise, will need to continue to improve, but overall continues to make strides in overall pitching; and continues to receive substantial college interest.
3/13/16- 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed pitcher. Projectable build with long legs. Overall good stuff for 2018 prospect. Shows quick arm from slight cross-fire delivery. Stays closed with good direction to plate. Fastball get downhill with life at 84-86 mph; touching 88 mph. Will need to increase arm speed on breaking ball; but pitch has good shape and he has feel for zone. Avg. changeup that should improve as he gains consistency in bottom of zone. High Follow in 2018 class.
