CF Canyon Koonce, 2028, Brownsburg: I got to Brownsburg early to watch Koonce in batting practice and the ease at which he presents the barrel stands out most. He has a leaner, 6-foot, 170-pound frame that has plenty of room to add future strength. From the batting practice look, and the projection in the frame, I think there will be some power to show up at some point - though for now he fits more the table-setter mold. He had three at-bats in my look, singled, and grounded out twice with run times in the 4.1s. Defensively, he did miss-play one ball, but I still have him as a slam-dunk tracker in CF, though the arm is fringy at this stage. The bat to ball skill (sub-10% K rate at the varsity level) and run are the carrying tools for Koonce and should bring a large contingent of interests this August.

Looking the part in the box with as sweet of a swing as any, Koonce has added quality strength to a 6-foot, 160-pound frame since the early part of the offseason. The left-handed stroke worked in a familiar manner for louder impacts, up to 96.4, with exceptional length out-front that produced middle-of-the-field bullets. A 6.6 runner, the impact metrics taking a step up reaffirms his status as a must-know bat in the class, especially considering the plate discipline and in-game contact rates he's shown in the past - the most valued traits in his game offensively. He is a lock to stick in center, and providing in-game power while maintaining the hit-ability he's shown previous during his sophomore season should make him highly-regarded amongst recruiters from across the country come August.

Recent rankings riser climbing to No. 2 overall in our 2028 class and into the top 75 nationally. Polished look offensively with a sweet left-handed stroke that is beginning to flash gap-to-gap power on top of the consistent barrel feel we have become familiar with from this prospect. Exits peaked at 94 mph. Koonce turned in a 6.56 60-yard dash to establish a slum-dunk looking CF profile. Coming off a massive spring in the HCC as a freshman, looks the part of a highest-end follow moving forward...

Koonce looked almost out of place in the afternoon group - a to-be freshman that would've fit right in during the morning group of 2025-2027 grads. Koonce is one of the more advanced '28's that we have identified thus far, looking the part of a priority follow as the '28 group moves into their freshman year. A lean, wiry, 6-foot, 160 pound left-handed hitting CF - Koonce turned in a 6.90 60, an advanced time for the age with an athletic gait to suggest the feet will be a real tool as he matures. Offensively, the left-handed hitter starts in a wide stance with the front foot open. He coils into the back hip to get back to even and lands soft on the front foot to allow for adjustability. The hands set in an ideal launch position and he turns the barrel tight to the body to create a short path. There is some present pull-side strength for the age, with his exit velocities peaking at 91 mph for now, a number that will surely improve as he adds strength to his frame.
