2022 MLB Draft: A highly athletic talent, Brown has a unique setup in the batter's box with his hands extended straight out, while pointing his bat straight up into the air before bringing both back towards his body as the pitch is thrown. It's a complicated process and could be tough to repeat for lesser athletes, but with quick hands and remarkable hand/eye he consistently gets into the correct position to hit. A disciplined contact hitter with rare swing/miss, Brown finished the 2022 season with a .340 batting average and a .460 OBP and just a 10.6% strikeout rate. At 5-foot-11, 190 pounds Brown also brings some sneaky pop to the plate. He has quick hip rotation and uses his entire body to produce power, slugging .544 with seven home runs in 206 at-bats. In his very first game on the Cape last summer he belted a 424-foot home run. On the bases Brown is an average to slightly above runner, clocking a 4.30 down the line. Defensively, his glove is better than his arm. He shows near average arm strength with a quick, yet funky release. A twitchy athlete with good feet, he makes all the plays on the dirt, showing average range. Brown has a high baseball IQ and should be able to stick at shortstop as a future average-to-better defender in pro ball. Josh Harrison is often mentioned as a big league comparable.
Cape Cod- A highly athletic talent, Brown has a unique setup in the batter's box with his hands extended straight out, while pointing his bat straight up into the air before bringing both back towards his body as the pitch is thrown. He continues his pre-pitch with a large load and stands on one foot until the pitch is released. It is a very complicated process and could be tough to repeat for lesser athletes. He also gets out on his front foot to hit, but his hand/eye is remarkable and he consistently put the bat on the ball. The righthanded hitter finished the Cape season with a .282 batting average and a .375 OBP which was the result of 11 walks and seven hit by pitch against 20 strikeouts. At 5-foot-11, 190 pounds Brown also brings some sneaky pop to the plate. He has quick hip rotation and uses his entire body to produce power, slugging .475 with five home runs in 117 at-bats. In his very first game on the Cape this summer he belted a 424-foot home run. On the bases Brown is an average runner, clocking a 4.30 down the line to the back of the first base bag. He also runs with good instincts. Defensively, he showed near average arm strength with a quick release, allowing his arm to play up to average. A twitchy athlete with good feet, he can occasionally play too fast, causing him to boot a routine ground ball. Despite this current lack of polish, Brown has a high baseball IQ and should be able to stick at shortstop as a future average defender in pro ball. With two solid seasons for the Chants already on his resume (.294/.413/.513, 11 stolen bases as a sophomore last spring) and a solid Cape performance this summer, Brown will be further crosschecked this fall. And with continued strong performance, he will likely be considered for the top five rounds next summer.
Athletic 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame, strong build, powerful lower half, long limbs, room to add strength. Right-handed pitcher with long, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and normal effort. Fluid rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 84-86 mph with arm side run action, late life and solid command. Breaking ball showed quality 11/5 shape with sharpness, late break, tight spin and depth at 71-73 mph. Athletic defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, and quick, clean transfers. Medium arm stroke into high-3/4 release with above average arm strength across, carry and accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 87 mph. Fluid, athletic runner that posted a 7.19 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter that hits from athletic setup, hands held high, slight bat wrap behind head, leg kick, explosive lower half, and quality balance. Line-drive, pull-side approach with fluid rhythm, slightly uphill bat path that creates leverage, and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 78 mph.
