Hargraves is a 5-foot-3, 120 pound prospect. The young right-handed hitting catcher shows a fundamentally sound swing. At this event, he had an exit velocity of 59 mph off the tee. The initial set up is athletic and square to the pitcher. The hands are relaxed just off the back shoulder. The load is short and gets him into a strong launch position. The bat-head takes a direct, flat path to and through the hitting zone.
Behind the plate, Hargraves was 53 mph on his throws to second base. The initial set-up is balanced, with the glove set in the middle of the chest. He showed the ability during the pitching portion of the event to receive well. On his throws, the feet are quick in getting him into a balanced throwing position. The hips and shoulders are in line with the target. The transitions from glove to hand is good and he gets the ball back, above the back shoulder. He works through his throws and could work to get over his front leg a bit more on his follow-through.
Hargraves shows a fundamentally sound skill-set. I think as he continues to get stronger and develop, he’s going to be a guy to follow.
