He uses a knee slide to get back to square and stack the weight over the back leg. The swing path is direct, to and through the hitting zone, producing a lot of line drives. During the batting practice he showed he can spray balls gap to gap with a max exit velocity of 86.7 MPH.
Defensively, Blake moves well around the bag at first base, with a velocity of 70 MPH on his throws across the diamond. The feet are light as he works to get into a balanced fielding position. He showed soft hands working through ground balls. The arm swing is fluid and he finishes through the play in line with the target. He also ran an 8.1 second sixty.
On the mound is where Blake really stood out. The young left-hander worked solely out of the stretch, allowing him to get balanced over the rubber. As he works down the mound he stays over his feet and uses a higher ¾ arm slot that produced a heavy fastball that sat 73-75 MPH.
