Excellent looking right-handed hitting first baseman who has improved since we last saw him. At first base, he is very good around the bag and can really throw. Threw 82 mph across the diamond with ease and accuracy. Could be a plus defender at first base at the next level. Ran a 4.81 down the line on his dig. The bat has a tee exit velocity of 83 mph. The set up is even and he has simple pick up and put down approach. The path is clean and the hands really work well. Needs strength to the upper body to go along with the big frame, that will aid his ability to drive the ball. Good looking prospect.
Committed to U Houston from San Jacinto for Fall '19.
10/11/15
At 6-foot-3, 225-pounds the frame is large and has some strength to him. At the plate hits from the right side, stance is wide, even and balanced. The hands are set just above shoulder height are loose, free and really work. The bat angle is in a good spot, creates a good path to the ball. Stays through the ball well, with a solid finish. The tee exit velocity was 83, with more in there as he gets stronger. Showed well in the game, collecting a hit and making solid contact in all at bats. In the field, shows good footwork, soft hands and a quick crisp transfer into throwing position. Footwork was good starting the double play from both positions, lateral speed may come into play at the hot corner. The arm works from both positions, the velocity was 78 from third and 72 from first. The power potential is in there, shows plus pop to both gaps. Is a high follow, will be interesting to see him progress.
2020 DRAFT:The 6-foot-4 first baseman began his career at Albany where he started 46 of 47 games as a freshman before transferring to nationally known JUCO powerhouse San Jacinto in Texas. Now in his first year at the University of Houston, Hernandez is again having a big impact. The right-handed hitter has a physical presence in the box with a clean path and fluid hands. Hernandez started all 15 games for the Cougars this spring ending with a .300 batting average with 4 doubles, a triple and 5 home runs while leading the team in most offensive categories.
