6/7/16 - Mattes is a lean 6-foot-3 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder from Liberty North HS in the Kansas City area.  He ran a 6.94 60, one of the top 60 times of the day, and a 4.50 home-to-first.  He has an exit velo of 92 mph, one of the top RHH velos on the day. At the plate, thin stance, hands work inside ball, middle to oppo line drive drives in batting practice, solid consistent contact.  In the outfield, 82 mph positional velo, loose high three quarters release, plays through the ball, quick footwork and quick catch and throws, mostly accurate throws, has room to fill out physically.

8/9/15 - Mattes is a 6-foot-3 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder and right-handed pitcher in the 2017 class.  Mattes ran a 7.10 60 and had an exit velo of 80 mph. Projectable and lean frame, capable of adding muscle as he matures.  At the plate, simple load, controlled leg lift, hits with leverage, level path to extension, singled to center field in game action.  In the outfield, 79 mph positional velo. High three-quarters release, loose arm action, plays through the ball, accurate throws. On the mound, Mattes is long-limbed with an over the top release, inline stride, and athletic finish.  Throws strikes with his fastball at 73-75 mph, touching 78 mph, some fastball on downhill plane, curveball at 60-62 mph, 12-to-6 shape, gradual action.  Fields position well, struck out one and walked one in game action.

6/16/15 - Mattes is a 6-foot-3 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in the 2017 class. Mattes runs a 7.34 60 and has an 83 mph exit velo.  He put together a good round batting practice, squaring up the ball to the middle of the field.  He has a simple smooth load with short stride,  quick bat speed and level path, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, Mattes makes has a high three-quarters release, fluid footwork and clean exchange, works behind the ball, 75 mph positional velo.
