Super 60: Missouri State recruit. 6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed pitcher with sturdy, athletic build. Works from a high-¾ slot, quick, athletic arm, slight stab/wrap on backside, fast hand out front, high-effort release with pronounced recoil finish. Fastball sat 89-90 with arm-side finish on two-seamer. Repertoire includes four pitches, all thrown with similar aggressiveness. Worked changeup at 81-82, thrown consistently for strikes with arm-side run and occasional sink. Throws both a curveball (75-76) and slider (76-79). Curveball flashed sharp, late break and tight spin.

8/2/16 - Russell is a 6-foot-3 190-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2017 class. Russell has a dominant outing collecting six strikeouts, one walk and on hit against seven hitters.  Fastball at 88-90 mph, top RHP velo of the day, sharp breaking ball with 11-to-5 action, 77-81 mph, late break, swing and miss, throws strikes, strong bodied, throws with some effort at end of delivery, clean arm action, high three quarters release, best pitching outing of the event. 

8/9/15 - Russell is a 6-foot-2 180-pound right-handed pitcher in the 2017 class. Russell was aggressive in the zone, working a head of hitters, and hitting both corners down in the zone.  Fastball had late life with run at 83-84 mph, hitting 85 mph one time.  Curveball had power and depth at 71-74 mph, 11-to-5 action, late.  Body is under control during delivery, quick arm speed, high three quarters release, throws with regular effort, stays inline.  Velocity increase since last events.

6/17/15 - Max fastball velo at 83 mph. High 3/4 arm slot, throws with regular effort.  Russell worked at 81-83 mph with his fastball. 12-to-6 curveball, gradual break, 69-72 mph. Change-up with sink 73-74 mph. Repeats, attacks zone, projectable frame

10/18/14 - Russell is a strong 6-foot-2 180-pound right-handed pitcher. Russell worked at 80-83 mph with fastball, throws both 2-seam and 4-seam fastball, life on fastball with run, 11-to-5 curveball, sharp break 67-69 mph, throws for a strike, slider at 67-69 mph, change-up 70-71 mph, throws for a strike with arm side release, three pitches in the zone, uses slider as strikeout pitch, mixes pitches well to keep pitchers off balance, throws with regular effort, stays inline during delivery, attacks hitters, collecting 9 outs in 25 pitches during game action. 

9/13/14 - Russell is a sturdy, projectable 6-foot-2 180-pound RHP.  Russell throws with regular effort; quick arm speed; slightly uphill in shoulders; fastball at 80-82 MPH with slight run; high ¾ release; curveball at 65-68 MPH; 12-to-5 shape; late break; slider at 68-70 MPH; fastball arm speed; 10-to-4 shape.  Player to watch in 2017 class.
