On the bump the fastball played hard at 80-84 after a long day behind the plate. At times erratic, there were enough strikes. Average leg kick, loads the back side. Good tempo and direct lines. Quick arm works from an over-the-top slot. Breaking ball ranged 66-70 with 11/5 action. Slows the arm to feel for the pitch. Erratic command of the spinner.
05.20.17
Strong, mature build at 6-foot-1, 215 pounds. Pop times ranged 2.07 - 2.08 with a positional velocity of 80 mph from the crouch. Strong arm swing, short and to a high-¾ release. Long feet. Arm strength over quickness. Tends to exchange low, allowing the ball to fade. Some accuracy and carry on each throw. Set up with the glove side set forward and the body slightly side saddled. Hands work with some effort. Showed a willingness and “want to” to block. Right handed hitter is slightly closed in an athletic position to start. Leg kick sets his shoulders slightly uphill. Loose and carries length through the point of contact. Very aggressive demeanor. Quick bat through the zone. Fluid rhythm worked to produce line drives, staying to the pull side.
From the mound, works with a strong arm swing and fluid delivery to produce a quick arm. Fastball bumped 85, sitting 81-83, heavy with some run. Showed an ability to work downhill, but had sequences where he was elevated. Breaking ball works with 11/5 tilt and gradual break, starting up out of the hand. Curveball touched 68, while being able to stay in the zone. Change up showed fastball look-alike hand speed, ranging 72-73, although erratic around the zone.
