6/16/16
Rutkowski is already a physically built 6-foot-2 230-pound lefty pitcher. Throws from a 3/4 arm slot with arm side sink and run sat 85-87. Showcased a plus changeup for his age with arm side fade and a hard 1-to-7 breaking ball at 75 MPH.
8/13/19:Showcased a solid command profile, working with an 88-to-90 mph fastball that reached 91 mph at times, up in the zone, and a low-80s slider with tilted action and average bite. He also flashed a straight change at 83 mph that served as an adequate change-of-pace offering. He stayed on line well, working aggressively in and around the zone, and showed a willingness to work forward and back with his fastball and breaking ball.
7/22/18: Selected in the 28th round of the 2017 MLB Draft, Rutkowski opted to attend Rutgers instead of playing professional baseball. Strongly built at 6’3/230 pounds with a consistent three-pitch mix, he seems very capable of improving his stock when he becomes draft eligible again in 2020. Utilizes a simple, repeatable delivery with consistent direction toward his target. Gets power from a developed lower half. ‘Drop and drive’ type of actions with slight shoulder tilt at hand break. High release. Low effort to his arm action. Finishes balanced with extension. FB sat 87-90 mph and topped at 91. Could consistently sit in the low 90’s with added strength. CB shows 2/7 shape with good velo at 75-79 mph. Also mixes in a CH at 79-84 mph. Had a tough time commanding the CH on this particular outing; came out very firm. Pitches with poise and isn’t afraid to compete on the mound. Quality young arm that could break out in a big way if he continues to improve. (Jurik)
