2017 New Jersey State Games (July 25-26, 2017)
Hoopes has a lean, athletic and projectable pitcher's frame at 6-foot-1 165-pounds. Was one of the top overall performers at the event and one of the most talked about arms from colleges and scouts in attendance. Fastball topped at 88 MPH with late life and sat mostly 86-88 in his first inning of work. Dropped in a 74-77 MPH curveball with sharp 11/5 bite when it was thrown for strikes. Tall balance point with drop and drive load on back side as he descends down the mound. Level shoulders and strong, bent and athletic front landing leg. Long, loose and whippy arm action from a high-3/4 slot. Quick, explosive actions on follow through help create life to fastball. Still polishing up his pitches all of his pitches, but projectable frame and clean arm bodes for more velocity to come.
