Stony Brook recruit. O'Neill has a strong, broad shouldered build at 5-foot-11 180-pounds. Fastball topped at 88 MPH and sat mostly 86-88 with late life and downward action in the strikezone. Curveball had 11/5 break at 67-70 and also featured a changeup with heavy armside run at 78-79. Showcased a cutter at 80-82 with smaller 10/4 break. Explosive athlete, stays over the rubber in his balance point and uses lower half to drive down the mound. Short, quick arm action from a high-3/4 slot creates some natural armside run on fastball. Uses uphill shoulders to generate force down in the strikezone upon release. Strong, firm landing leg on finish.
2017 Future Games (August 2-5, 2017)
O'Neill has a strong, athletic frame at 5-foot-11 180-pounds. Fastball sat 84-86 for his outings with Team New Jersey, flashing a curveball with 11/5 depth at 70-72 with tight spin and a changeup with armside fade at 76-78 MPH. Rhythm in start of delivery into a strong, athletic balance point. Uphill shoulders going down the mound. Short, quick arm action from a high-3/4 slot. Fastball has some armside run, able to spot on the inner half to right handers and complement it with breaking ball. One of the top uncommitted arms in the state with feel for three pitch mix for strikes.
Athletic durable pitchers frame at 5-11, 190-pounds. Nice lower half involvement with some backside drive and good hip clearance at beginning. Controlled build up style delivery with average leg kick. Sound, clean arm action throwing from a high three quarter slot. Creates fast arm speed pitching with regular effort. Fastball has some later run and sink to the pitch up to 89 mph. Breaking ball has gradual break with big 12/6 shape up to 74 mph. Showed nice feel for chanegup with fade at 80 mph. Durable framed high level pitching prospect with feel for arsenal and command.
O'Neill has a strong, athletic frame with broad shoulders at 5-foot-11 180-pounds. One of the top arms from the event. Fastball topped at 89, sat mostly 87-89. Showcased a breaking ball at 72-74 with 11/5 shape and a changeup with some armside fade at 78-80. Slingshot type arm action, short and quick. Explosive and athletic going down the mound. Closes self off in leg lift and lands slightly closed. Exceptional strength in lower half allows him to clear hips despite being closed. High riser in 2019 rankings.
