NY Procase (June 26, 2017)
Physical, switch-hitting 6-foot-4 200 pound OF/RHP ran a 7.25 60. Offensively- From the left side Ras starts just outside his shoulders with his feet; barrel angled behind his head with a slight leg lift. Sweeping stroke through the zone with an elevated finish. Flashed some pop to his pull side. As a righ-handed hitter he uses a similar setup, utilizing more of a toe-tap for timing. Lower half not as sync as the left side. Put up an exit velocities of 94 MPH from the right side and 93 MPH from the left (both with wood). Defensively- Corner OF that stays behind the ball, accelerating into the catch. Maintains long pitcher's arm action with above average carry and arm strength, peaking at 90 MPH but has been up to 92 MPH. Despite plenty of tools as a postion player, the Alabama recruits stock sits much higher on the mound as evidence by his sitting 90-92 at the Garden State Games 12 days ago, touching off a couple of 94 MPH heaters with a repeatable over the top delivery working on a downhill plane.
4/8/17
University of Alabama recruit, currently ranked No. 5 in New Jersey’s 2018 class of RHP and 150 overall. Strong, lanky build at 6-foot-3 195-pounds. FB top at 92 and was consistent 87-89. Curve ball 74-75 small 11/5 break. Changeup was 69-70 with downward tumbling action. Showed great poise and capability to pitch around errors. Ras did take the loss against a very good Toms River North team on 4/8/17.
Preseason All-State Showcase (February 11th, 2017)
Ras has a strong, lanky build at 6-foot-3 195-pounds. Alabama recruit, ranked No. 5 in NJ 2018 class, 154 Overall. One of the top performers of the entire event. Pitching- recorded the top fastball velocity at 91 mph. Sat 88-90 mostly. Curveball had smallish break at 70-74 - cutter-like 11/5 tilt. Had better feel for changeup, which looks more like a tumbling splitter at 63-67. Long arm action, locks out arm. High-3/4 slot. Lands heavy on landing leg. Can get added velocity if he can keep upper body and weight over the rubber for longer as he goes down the mound. Up-tempo delivery, drop and drive type pitcher. Gets good shoulder tilt going down the mound despite opening hips prematurely with the heavy landing foot. Offensively- Switch hitter. Right handed: starts in a slight crouch with hands just above shoulder and weight visibly on back leg. Uses a toe tap and stride to start swing. Gets some extension in arms and wrists on contact. Partially clears hips. Exit velocity of 87. Left handed: Starts in a wider stance with a slight crouch and hands just above the back shoulder and the bat wrapped around his head. Mixes between a toe tap and stride & a leg lift and stride to start swing. Long levers create extension and some juice from the left side on contact and follow through. Exit Velocity topped at 91. Defensively- throws topped at 92 mph, good for second at the entire event. Long, stiff arm action. Throws had some arm side run. Tall finish with momentum carrying toward target.
6/16/16
Ras is the No. 5 2018 prospect in NJ, and for good reason. Was 86-88 and showcased a changeup at 68-70. Throws from a 3/4 arm slot - gets fastball up to 89 and touched 90 once at Futures Preview Showcase on June 4th. High follow prospect with high ceiling. Tall, wiry complexion with a loose arm.
Futures Preview (6/4/16)
Ras is a lanky, athletic 6-foot-4 175-pound RHP/OF and switch hitter. Very projectable body, Ras was one of the top prospects from the event. Offensively- Lefty: Ras starts with an athletic stance and the bat rested flat on his back shoulder. Uses a leg kick and fluid hand load and explosive hip and hands for his age to generate power. Had an Exit Velocity of 90 from the left side. Righty: Starts in an athletic stance with a toe tap, explodes hips through the zone. Hands get somewhat wide righty, but was able to barrel inside pitches despite this. Righty Exit Velocity: 86
Fielding- Throwing Velocity of 88 from the outfield, throws from a high-3/4 angle and explosively pulls down on throws, creating excellent back spin and carry on throws to the plate.
Pitching- Throws from a high-3/4 angle off the mound with smooth mechanics and a lightning quick arm stroke. Up to 90 MPH with FB, but sat 87-89 consistently. Showcased a changeup at 66 that had splitter-like break. Very projectable arm.
8/13/19:6-foot-4, 195-pound righthander with tough angle from a high slot, and some front-side funk in his delivery that adds deception. He pitched downhill at 92-94 mph in this look, showing feel for two different breaking balls that were both out pitches, though they blended together at times: a tight downer curve at 78-81 and a quality slider with solid tilt at 82-84. His 84 mph changeup was his clear fourth pitch, below-average on this look. (Fitt)
