One of the more feared sluggers in NYC, De La Cruz had some of the loudest contact during BP. Very nimble for his 5-foot-11 220 pound frame around the bag at 1B.
Big Apple Preview (October 8, 2016)
Full Bodied corner infielder at 5-foot-10; 215 pounds. He ran a 7.90 60. Offensively- High end offensive abilities from De La Cruz who uses a spread setup, short knee drive with an up-down stride and slight take back of the hands. Explodes and spins front side through contact getting thick lower half fully involved. Flashed plenty of pull side power but can stay short through the middle of the field and on a line. Impressive exit velocity at 94 MPH. Middle of the order, run producer.Defensively- Fairly nimble on his feet, hands get in front and exchanges feet well. Projects as next level 1B as arm would need to see some improvement (73 MPH) to have him anchor down at 3B.
